Luv That Contrast

18 Dec

I just can’t stop making contrasting Sun-Moon pairs. Why stop? Here we have the Sun still taking things much more seriously than the Moon. I think I’ll make it a crescent moon with the tips pointing away from the Sun.

A Last, Lingering Look

18 Nov

My Christmas Angel is done. Next comes the slime, goo and possible destruction that is the mold-making process. Fingers crossed as I slime it with Vaselene, then pour on the silicone rubber.

Christmas Angel

10 Nov

My new Christmas Angel is coming along. I’d been putting off doing the fingers, but the basic gestures sort of came together automatically once I got started. Now it’s just a matter of fine tuning– and deciding what to put on the banner. I could go traditional with “Gloria” or “Noel”, but I also have a bit of an impulse to update the Christmas message: “Get Out Of Jail Free”.

Sculpture Ready for You Now

10 Nov

This one’s done and up for sale at eBay. Just click your mouse a few times and wait for the doorbell to ring. It’s easy! … Or just come enjoy it if you don’t feel like buying. The more, the merrier!

Full Moon Face 2.0

25 Oct

My first full moon face turned out pretty popular. But if I’d known then what I’ve learned since about selling on eBay, shipping, mold-making, etc., there are a lot of little details I would have done differently. If only I had it to do all over again. Hey, I do have it to do all over again, to wit:

Celestial Contrast

21 Oct

Having determined that his treatise on “The Phenomenology of Mind” will require only a single volume of footnotes, the Sun may now turn his attention to more tenebrous matters. As for the Moon? It’s all sweet music to the Moon’s ears.

New Sun & Moon Pairs

19 Oct

A new sculpture in the “doodling” stages. With these, I stumbled upon a new technique of drawing lines by pushing straight into the moist clay with the tip of a paint brush, then pulling it back out diagonally. I want to get polyclay or waxy effects with water-based pottery clay or porcelain.

More Attempted Art Nouveau

10 Aug

This is going to be an incense holder. I was trying to mimic Art Nouveau, and got one step closer to the design I’m trying for. But I definitely need to learn flowers next. Maybe modeling actual flowers would work.

Real-Looking Sun Face

5 Jul

This survived bisque firing, and I’ll glaze it next. I’m thinking it might make a good contrasting pair with the moon face.

‘We Don’t Kill Easy’

30 Apr

Rash mold-making shortcuts left me with a gooey mess of uncured silicone. In utter despair, I tossed the mold, original stuck firmly inside, out in the yard. After a few rainy nights and warm days, I was going to throw it in the trash when, miraculously, the original popped out. I poured some Rockite into the tatterdemalion mold, and got THIS! With luck, this un-dead mold will now produce 60 or more copies just like this one, which proudly bears the title “SFb001”, destined to go down in Kenny Smillie history as The Sun Face That Didn’t Kill Easy.
