Sleeping Sun Face

30 Aug

This started out as another eye & mouth study, but since it seemed to take on a little more dignity than the usual Mr. Potatohead, I added decoration to make it into a Sleeping Sun Face. The clay variety is Mashiko, which is the basis for a pottery and folk art tradition all its own.

I keep making things like this to fill in the blank spot on the wall behind the fireplace. But every time I do, my daughter Tina says “Quit making faces. They creep me out.”
