Ingenious New Plan

30 Aug

Since the heads often break off of my figurines at some point during the process of sculpting, handling and drying, why not make the heads and bodies separately? That’s my ingenious new plan. I made a ball of T-shirt rags:

Then I formed the head around it, leaving a corner peaking out the bottom to pull on:

Then after it was about 75% dry but not brittle yet, I pulled it off the wires and tugged out the rags:

The result is a perfectly good, Fun-Size, hollow clay head:

Now all I have to do is make a torso with a neck socket, and plug this into it. Hopefully, this will eliminate a lot of tech problems such as heads that fall off and roll under the sofa when the clay is still wet.
